My Thoughts on the Japanese Economy

I went to Takashimaya the other day to buy dinner for myself and my grandparents. It had only been a few weeks since I last went, but I was surprised to see that some items had gone up in price. One example that stood out was my grandfather’s favorite beef on rice box, which had gone up 200 yen. I’m not sure whether it was the hot weather or the price increase, but there was no queue.

I instantly thought of Abe-nomics and the policies and inflation. Inflation conjures up images of the financial problems that occurred in Japan in the 1980’s.

Cultural Differences: 文化の違い

Having lived in Australia for more than 20 years there have been many a time I have found interesting cultural differences between Australia and Japan. One such divide is related to my fussiness with food.

I don’t like seafood. I can eat a few select kinds including red/white fish meat, eel and bonito shavings, but in general I dislike the majority of seafood such as crab, squid, clams and the like.
